Why does Ultimate Symbol charge sales tax?
Since Ultimate Symbol is based in New York State, we are liable for the collection and payment of any sales to customers who are based in New York State at the sales tax rate of 8.625%.

What if my organization is tax exempt?
No organization is automatically tax exempt. All organizations must provide proof of exemption. There are differences between federal tax exemption and state tax exemption.

United States Federal government agencies are tax exempt. United States government credit cards and checks qualify a purchase as a United States government purchase. If a customer is a representative of the United States government they must still provide Ultimate Symbol with documentation proving their tax exempt status.

State government agencies are not always tax exempt. Exemption is on a state by state and an organization by organization basis. Asking an agency or organization to provide Ultimate Symbol with proof of tax exemption provides us with protection from audit liability. Local government agencies also qualify for tax exemption in most states.

Universities and colleges qualify for state tax exemption in most states as well. However, they must still provide Ultimate Symbol with a certificate of exemption.
